Your capstone research project will follow 1 specific pathway:
Primary Research, or
Secondary Research
Each of your chapters represent the building blocks of your study, so it is important you choose a pathway that is researchable, feasible, and exciting to you!
The only primary research permitted is Survey research, and an Auto-ethnography.
Both study designs require Research Ethics Board (REB) approval, which requires completion of an REB application form
Important Notes:
A maximum of 5 students per section may pursue the primary research pathway. To be considered, interested students must:
Achieve 100% on the Ethics Competency Quiz (hosted in Brightspace),
Meet 1-on-1 with their instructor via Teams to discuss their goals for this pathway and provide evidence of a clear gap in the research they plan to pursue, and
Sign an acknowledgement form confirming they will meet with their instructor online each week to maintain steady progres
You are not permitted to conduct research with children, and all research conducted with participants must adhere to Brock's REB procedures
The only secondary research permitted is Rapid Review, and Document Analysis.
Neither require REB approval
Important Notes:
Rapid Review must be conducted using Covidence, and involves reviewing published primary research studies
Document Analysis can involve any type of document including (but not limited to) curricula, tweets/social media posts, children's books, blogs, children's movies, policies, etc.
