Every assignment has a due date. You are expected to submit each assignment through Brightspace by 11:59 pm on their respective due date.
Late assignments will not be accepted unless:
(a) approved by the instructor at least 48 hours prior to the deadline or
(b) accompanied by medical documentation. See Medical Note Procedure
Accomodations past 48 hours of the deadline will not be accepted.
Late assignments will receive 10% deduction each day, up to 5 days.
After 5 days, the assignment is graded as 0.
Students are expected to engage with course content and online group activities and are required to complete all assigned tasks.
Should a required task (e.g., Padlet) be incomplete, a failing grade will be assigned, unless arranged otherwise between instructor and student. This means that instructors have the right to accept a resubmission of an assignment, at their discretion.
Engagement with the course and completion of learning modules will directly relate to course objective achievement and final grade. (see Article 10.2.2.A in the Undergraduate Academic regulations).
GenAI tools may be used in this course for specific functions only. These include generating initial ideas, summarizing course readings, or revising grammar. Please review the table below for specific permissions and requirements. If you’re unsure whether a use is appropriate, please check with the instructor.
Academic misconduct is a serious offence. The principle of academic integrity, particularly of doing one’s own work, documenting properly (including use of quotation marks, appropriate paraphrasing, and referencing/citation), collaborating appropriately, and avoiding misrepresentation, is a core principle in university study. Students should consult Section VII, "Academic Misconduct", in the "Academic Regulations and University Policies" entry in the Undergraduate Calendar, the Student Code of Conduct, and Academic Integrity Policy documents to view a fuller description of prohibited actions, and the procedures and penalties.
Brock University’s Academic Integrity Policy mandates that instructors "are responsible for taking steps to detect forms of academic misconduct in all course work that is submitted by Students" (Appendix 3).
Here are some examples of breaches that your professor, instructors and marker/graders MUST report to the Chair of the Department:
Unauthorized use of GenAI and GenAI output;
Allowing academic work to be copied by someone else
Infringement of Intellectual Property Rights, including posting course materials on the internet without explicit permission from the instructor;
Faking or falsifying research data, or inappropriately omitting any research data, results, or findings used in essay, assignment, major research paper, or thesis, including false bibliography
Submitting academic work that has already been graded by another instructor (i.e., recycling academic work);
Contracting services to produce and/or submit academic work; and
Facilitating others in contravening the Academic Integrity Policy in any way.
Section 10 of the Academic Integrity Policy outlines a list of possible disciplinary measures considered when adjudicating academic misconduct, including, but not limited to, failure in the course, removal from the program of study, and suspension from the University for a definite period with a transcript notation.
The expectation is for original academic work while following the requirements determined by the instructor for this course, including for when collaborative practices are required, and other protocols such as authorized resources, auxiliary channels allowed and examination rules in place.
Be aware that additional information related to academic work submitted for grading may be requested at the discretion of the professor (e.g., calculations/Excel files, editing work files, sources or prep-editing work, spell-checkers used). Therefore, students are advised to be prepared should the instructor request such information.
Instances when originality of academic work cannot be demonstrated by the student, or there is no response from the student to the request, or when there were deviations to the instructions (e.g., unauthorized access or access outside the parameters allowed), those will be treated as applicable for reporting academic misconduct as outlined in the Academic Integrity Policy.
Brock University's Academic Integrity Policy serves as the point of reference for every member of the University’s community regarding appropriate academic behaviours, as well as the context for when academic misconduct must be reported. In the context of all forms of academic misconduct listed in Appendix 2 of the policy and upon review of submissions for grading, the appropriate provisions will be applied when academic work must be reported for academic misconduct.
The expectation is for original academic work while following the requirements determined by the instructor for this course, including for when collaborative practices are required, and other protocols such as authorized resources, auxiliary channels allowed and examination rules in place.
Of note that in other courses, the use of GenAI tools and GenAI-generated content/output may or may not be allowed within specific guidelines or requirements. Please do not assume that being the case for all courses. Ensure to always review instructions carefully and contact your instructor if you have questions.
Plagiarism means presenting work done (in whole or in part) by someone else as if it were one's own and applies to all forms of student work and is by Brock University Policy, considered to be Academic misconduct; this may result in a failing grade for this course if ones' actions are proven to be associated with behaviours such as but not limited to:
Copying information from another student.
Copying a report or allowing someone else to copy one's report
Using another student's observational data
Using direct quotations or sections of paraphrased material in a report without acknowledgment
Faking or falsifying observational data
Submission of course work in whole or in part by someone else as one's own
Exhibiting unprofessional or dishonest behaviour related to, or in an observation site, a field placement, practicum, or internship
Community members are reminded that images, postings, dialogues, and information about themselves or others posted on the internet (e.g. on social networking sites such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook) are public information.
Content that is brought to the attention of the University which describes or documents behaviour that reasonably suggests a breach of University policy (i.e. The Student Code of Conduct, The Respectful Work and Learning Environment Policy, Academic Integrity Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, etc.) is subject to further investigation. The University reserves the right to appropriately respond to these incidents, which may include disciplinary action.
